Tayrona National Natural Park closes several times a year: there are scheduled closures to allow the ecosystem to rest and for ceremonies of the indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada to take place, and sometimes temporary closures due to weather or safety concerns. During those days, none of the park’s beaches can be visited, not even by motorboat.
The good news: the private motorboat tour from Santa Marta is still on. Outside the park, there are beaches, bays, and snorkeling spots that can be reached quickly from the Marina Internacional. In this guide, we’ll tell you which routes are still open and how to plan your day.
Scheduled closures for 2026: February 1–15, June 1–15, and October 19–November 2 (the park reopens on November 3), as reported by Blu Radio based on information from National Parks. Dates are subject to change, so please confirm them before traveling.
Which beaches close when Tayrona National Park closes?
All the beaches within the park, including Playa Cristal, Cinto, and Bahía Concha. If you already had a reservation for one of those routes, we’ll help you change the date or transfer your reservation to an open route.

Before traveling, check the park’s status. Closure dates may change from year to year and are announced on the official channels of Colombia’s National Natural Parks. If you message us on WhatsApp, we’ll also let you know which routes are available on your travel dates.
Motorboat routes that are still available
Inca Inca and Taganga
Inca Inca is a quiet beach with clear water, perfect for a leisurely swim. It pairs well with Taganga, the fishing village with the liveliest atmosphere in the area. It’s one of the favorite itineraries for families and groups. View the Inca Inca and Taganga itinerary.

Taganga and Playa Grande
Playa Grande is located in Taganga Bay and is easily accessible only by sea. It has beach restaurants, calm waters, and a great atmosphere for spending the day. See the route from Taganga to Playa Grande.
Inca Inca, Playa Blanca, and El Rodadero
The route to the south of the city: Playa Blanca, with white sand and calm waters, and El Rodadero, the liveliest beach in Santa Marta. A good option for groups with mixed interests. See the Inca Inca, Playa Blanca, and Rodadero route.
Acuario del Rodadero
A unique stop, ideal if you’re traveling with children: the aquarium across from El Rodadero, combined with a visit to Playa Blanca. See the route to the Acuario del Rodadero.
Inca Inca and Bajo Bello Horizonte (snorkeling)
For those who want to snorkel: el Bajo de Bello Horizonte is a snorkeling spot a short distance from the marina, which can be combined with a swim at Inca Inca. See the Inca Inca and Bajo Bello Horizonte route.
Sunset Tour
The sunset motorboat tour is not park-dependent. It departs at 4:30 PM and returns at 8:00 PM, with the sunset over Santa Marta Bay. It’s the favorite choice for couples, proposals, and celebrations. View the sunset tour.
